Last week I attended the annual Leadership Prayer Breakfast at the Antlers Hilton hotel in downtown Colorado Springs. It was pretty cool to see such huge room full of people representing so many different perspectives, from real estate agents like myself to police, fire, active duty military, political leaders, presidents of local companies, etc. [...] This morning’s news had a lot of positives in it for Colorado Springs, and Colorado in general (kind of unusual for the news loop, eh?), and I thought it might be nice to highlight some of it here. Sports – The Nuggets are in the NBA playoffs, and Rockies are off the best start of [...] The 3rd Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division, just returned home from Iraq this week to Fort Carson. Approximately 4,000 troops reunited with family, friends, children, spouses, home, they represent about 14% of the population of Ft Carson. Until we moved here to Colorado Springs, I don’t think I had a clue about what [...] February 2011 home sales in Colorado Springs were down 21.7% from 2010. That is a big number. With only 448 closings, it is a scary number. But on the flip side, average prices were up 13.6%, and the median was up 4.67%, indicating some strength. The ratio of selling price to listing price was 97.1%, [...] Some of our best friends lost their son this past week, in a tragic motorcycle accident. When we moved here in 1991, they actually took vacation time to help us drive the trucks out. 4 years later, they had joined us here, along with many other families from our old church in San Jose, California. [...] We just had our 3rd subzero cold snap this winter. I use the word ‘cold snap’ because for those of us who live in Colorado Springs, these things are usually over in a snap. It was below zero for a couple of nights this week, but we’ll be in the 50′s by tomorrow. This kind [...] Today is our 2nd day in a row that is forecast to be near zero for a high in Colorado Springs. It dropped to nearly 15 below yesterday, and it just hit zero today. This morning we woke up to a frozen pipe in our kitchen, and our office reported the 2nd day in a [...] January home sales in Colorado Springs were very comparable to last January. Unit sales, average price and median price all were within 1% of January of 2010, indicating that perhaps, a new level of stability has hit the market.
