[...] This was further enforced in 1944, when the government first made available the VA home loan program. The program was designed to help returning troops who fought valiantly during World War II to find the home of their dreams and continues to this day. The program is a self-sustaining program and needs no excess money from the government to continue providing amazing benefits to our veterans and active service members. While this is a great program, potential homeowners still must ask themselves if this program is right for them.Source: livingcoloradosprings.com [...]

Okay, so the new mayor and city council want to cut city spending. Then they turn around and pay $111,000 to come up with a logo to best describe Colorado Springs. What a crock. "Live It Up!" not only conveys a negative "party" image of our beautiful city, but to spend such an atrocious amount of our tax dollars is a joke. Why didn't they hold a logo-naming contest open to all citizens, with the winner receiving even just a tenth of the amount that was spent. I don't know about you, but winning $1000 would have been a windfall for me.

I have been involved in many branding initiatives over 30 years. I recall, for example, that during a difficult economic period in 1981, city leaders embraced another branding theme: "Colorado Springs Ahead."

A logo and theme simply summarize what happens next. The brand becomes tangible and nuanced with combined marketing initiatives over time. I’ve NEVER experienced the unveiling of a new brand that did not attract criticism from someone.

For example, imagine a bunch of tech geeks sitting around a table when Steve Jobs decided that his company would be called Apple Computer and the logo would be a rainbow striped apple. You can hear the criticisms: "What does an apple have to do with cutting-edge computer technology?" Well, Steve and his team taught us this meaning by what they did to embellish the brand at all levels. The apple logo became iconic. As has the quirky Starbucks logo. And countless other arbitrary-looking logos we take for granted today. Most good designers feel that another, better logo is but one layout away.

What the logo critics should be focusing on is the extent of collaboration that this project created across all community sectors. This is unprecedented and a sign of healthy maturation for the community. “Live It Up!” has legs and can act as a rallying cry for many different community marketing initiatives. Come together. The logo and theme has been finished. Make it work.

The result will be more creative work from new business attracted to the community.

I randomly came across this post....Reading that you r a Realtor and wife is a teacher thought you would be able to give me some good insights to Colorado Springs. My husband and I have been researching here and are considering it in our move. Wanting to relocate to a place with more things to do with the kids on a daily basis and better schools....We currently live in Louisiana and love it here, just want more for the kids.....Any insights would be helpful.

Thanks
