Winter Activities for Non-Skiers
If you aren’t into skiing, there are still activities for you to enjoy here in Colorado!
If you want to get out and enjoy the snow without the skis, check out these fun things to do:
Dog Sledding
Why not experience the rush of dog sledding? This is the real deal– a pack of dogs pulling your sled at incredible speeds through the snow. This popular activity can be found at Snowmass, Breckenridge, Winter Park, Steamboat Springs, Telluride, and Vail.
Snow tubing
Not keen on having something strapped to your feet? Try snow tubing instead! Many resorts offer this option for those who are not interested in skiing. Let your inner child out and enjoy sledding down the mountain! Some great places to snow tube are Vail, Keystone, Steamboat Springs, Copper Mountain, and many more!
Hot Springs
Want to just relax and enjoy the outdoors of Colorado without freezing? Try taking a soak in hot springs! Temperatures in the hot springs can range from 70 degrees Fahrenheit to 120 degrees Fahrenheit! Some places are kid friendly and others are adults only, depending upon what you prefer. Sleigh Ride
Bundle up under a blanket and take a relaxing horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow! You’ll feel like you’re in a fairy tale. You can enjoy the scenery of the mountains and snow, without the hiking! Check out this list of sleigh riding locations to pick the best one for you!
Ice Skating
Lace up a pair of skates and get on the ice! There are many ice rink locations to choose from, including Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Denver, Keystone, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Vail, Lake City, and Crested Butte just to name a few.
Ice Fishing
Want to try something different? How about ice fishing?! Ice fishing is growing in popularity and there are several prime locations in Colorado to enjoy this sport. While this activity does require some walking and effort, you can still enjoy the outdoors while doing this more laid-back activity. Some great lakes to check out are: Eleven Mile Reservoir, Chambers Lake, Trinidad Lake State Park, Harvey Gap Reservoir, Chatfield Reservoir, Crawford Reservoir, Lake Granby, and Twin Lakes Reservoirs.
Snowmobiling
If you’d rather sit than stand to enjoy the snow, try snowmobiling! You can still get the same adrenaline rush, without waiting in line for the slopes! Grab a couple of friends and rent snow mobiles for the day to explore Colorado’s mountains!
If you’d rather enjoy the warmth of the indoors, these may be for you:
Day drink by the fire
Many ski resorts offer bars, spas, and community fireplaces. While your friends and family are out hitting the slopes, you can cozy up next to the fire with a book and your favorite beverage. (Hot chocolate or hot toddy! Up to you!) Take a moment for yourself and enjoy the tranquility of snow covered mountains!
Movies
If you’d rather not ski, go see a movie! Winter is the perfect time to spend a little more time at the theater! Check fandango.com to find your closest theater and movies that are currently playing.
Shopping
Of course, who can resist doing a little shopping? If you are in a ski town, there are likely shops to explore and local businesses with unique gifts. Even if you don’t buy anything, sometimes just window shopping itself can be relaxing. If you want, you can grab a few unique items to put away from Christmas gifts! Or you could bring home a little memento for yourself. Either way, shopping is always a fun option!
